On the Road to Abiquiu Walking in the Footsteps of Georgia O'Keeffe

It seems fitting to introduce myself to you for the first time through Georgia O'Keeffe and what I discovered on the road to her home in Abiquiu and the New Mexico land that inspired her and her incredible work!

Our journey in following Georgia O'Keeffe took us through Santa Fe, NM where we visited the Georgia O'Keeffe museum, the only museum in the world dedicated to work of a woman artist! If you make your way to Santa Fe you much make a visit to her museum a must see!

We also traveled to Taos, NM where Georgia O'Keeffe visited often for food and supplies! The picture on my home page was shot as we made our way to Taos. My husband and I were given a private tour of Georgia O'Keefe's home! You will see images here from around her property. Unfortunately we were not permitted to take photographs inside her home.

Georgia O'Keeffe's home in Abiquiu

Doors designed with both a pedestrian door and wider door for horses or cars!

Georgia O'Keeffe grew her own vegetables for she saved and preserved throughout the year. Today the garden is tended by volunteers and food grown and collected is all given away to the local foodbank!

Ahead of her time, Georgia O'Keeffe designed this rock irrigation system to bring water to her gardens!

Following travel to Japan, Georgia O'Keeffe was enamored with Japanese gardens and had her garden designed in the same style.

Designed to capture the magnificent views that surrounded her Georgia O'Keeffe installed two large windows in her bedroom! Can you imagine what it would have been like to wake up ever morning to see the beautiful New Mexico sky and mountains?
